STEM Fair site layout
Tiffany has made adjustments so that CQU and JCU stalls are now separated, with JCU near CSIRO & CQU near the entrance area. We have confirmation that Rena Singh will be attending.
- HOB zone A: JCU; CQU; Department of Environment & Science; Aviation Australia
- HOB zone B: School exhibits, JCU & CSIRO exhibit
- HOB zone C: The Makers (Room off the HOB); Questacon (a 2nd Room off the HOB) PRECINCT A: St Mary’s College exhibits
- PRECINCT B: Gordonvale SHS; Department of Agriculture & Fisheries
- PRECINCT C: She Flies
Tiffany has been unable to make contact with She Flies or Department of Environment & Science Action: Jason please contact She Flies Also: does anyone have contact with Dept Env & Science? The Makers need a projector & screen in their room. Tiffany will arrange via a school laptop. Action: Matt please bring The Makers presentation material on a USB.
STEM Fair site Set-up
Tables for the stalls will start being placed in HOB area from 2pm on Thursday 1/11. So stalls inside HOB can be prepared on Thursday afternoon. The school will not be locked until the cleaners have finished (probably around 5pm or possibly later).
There will be access from 8am on the Friday morning for presenters and others to sign in and prepare their stalls prior to the 9.30am start for Session 1.
The Department of Agriculture & Fisheries stall will be outside in Precinct B.
This could be prepared on Thursday afternoon, inside the HOB, then moved outside Friday morning.
This stall will be unmanned, but we believe DAF are hoping to include a sniffer dog & handler as part of their exhibit … so it may be dogged instead (sorry couldn’t resist). Lunch, tea & coffee arranged for exhibitors.
Tiffany sent out a request notice about MEDIA CONSENT to all schools. Peace Lutheran College is the only one to respond and CONFIRM consent at this stage.
Action: Tiffany to send out IMPLIED CONSENT words (provided by Stephen Ung) in an email to all participating schools, so that schools are now responsible for highlighting any exceptions, so we can operate with photographs and film media attention.
Alison Kraus – Director of Media at St Mary’s College – has organised Channel Nine to attend our STEM Fair.
She requested they film Session 3 only (as this will have mostly St Mary’s College students for whom Media Consent is finalised).
Action: Tiffany & Anja to get in touch with Holy Spirit College and Holloways Beach Environmental Education Centre. Both have requested attending session 3 which is not possible.
- Session 1 has about 90 students;
- Session 2 about 70 students and
- Session 3 over 200 students.
Whatever arrangements can be made here, we must make sure that the students from either of these schools remain separate from the St Mary’s College students so Television Film Crews can be safely directed on what they can film.
Celia’s Quiz questions just needed the return by date of “6pm Monday 5th November” included, then sent to Tiffany to distribute to participating schools. About 150 copies will be printed for the first two sessions and placed on the prize display table for students to access.
But we hope most schools will be able to print off their own.
Tiffany has acquired prizes for each school, including vouchers from The Makers and Science Rhymes books from Celia.
Certificates of Appreciation
STEM Champion Lorena will liaise with Tiffany to certificates for participating STEM Fair exhibitors.
Action: Tiffany to supply Lorena with the STEM Fair flyer art and list of participants
Future STEM HUB Meeting
Anja noted that Inspiring Australia advertises the next STEM HUB meeting as being at TAFE on Wednesday 31st October. This is not suitable just prior to the STEM Fair.
Action: Anja contact Rena Singh to change this to Wednesday 14th November 5pm S Block TAFE. Send to all original supporters of the STEM HUB initiative, using Tiffany’s amended email list.
Matt Richie & Jason Holdsworth will be attending the STEM HUB Forum in Brisbane 20-21/11 with Anja attending the first part.
Funding for their attendance has been granted through Inspiring Australia.
Kurt may be able to attend independently. Lorena will be unable to go.
Next STEM Fair Meeting
